Stoneware Gaiwan 175ml

The firing of this gaiwan was strongly marked by reduction, producing the black metallic tones visible at certain places on its surface.  The effects of the flame, leaving ash in its wake, are particularly rich in this piece and have created many nuanced tones.  The plant motifs on this gaiwan bring contrast and movement to the piece. Firing with a reduction atmosphere at very precise moments, give the piece its richness and distinct character.

I take great care when I make gaiwans, which require extreme precision to ensure that each part fits with the others and that the object feels natural and comfortable to use. Although fired at high temperatures, vitrified and non-porous, it will take on a patina from tea tannins over time, testifying to its regular use.

 Each piece bears the unique mark that only wood firing can create, making it a treasured item for any tea lover.

The gaiwans in this series are similar; only the floral pattern differs. The piece you receive will be slightly different but very similar to the one in the photos.

Instructions for care: To preserve the colour and keep it free of tannins, rinse the piece directly after use and wash afterwards
